内容記述 More and more institutions of higher education in Japan have recently used a system of ability grouping in foreign language teaching in order to provide students who have different levels of knowledge and skills with effective instruction. Kitami Institute of Technology also started to use this system in their English education program in 2009 for similar reasons. This paper will evaluate the state of ability grouping at the institute and will aim to improve English teaching as well as give information about ability grouping to other faculties. Firstly, the paper surveys the reason why ability grouping was introduced and how it has been implemented thus
far. Then, the paper analyses the results of a questionnaire given to students on their views of ability grouping. Participating teachers’ views will also be presented.
