Kitami Institute of Technology also started to use this system in their English education program in 2009 for similar reasons. This paper will evaluate the state of ability grouping at the institute and will aim to improve English teaching as well as give information about ability grouping to other faculties. Firstly, the paper surveys the reason why ability grouping was introduced and how it has been implemented thus\nfar. Then, the paper analyses the results of a questionnaire given to students on their views of ability grouping.
