| 内容記述 | Melville’s first novel Typee is an animated narrative o a cross-cultural experience of a young American in the South Pacific. The Typee criticism written in English in the 19th and 20th centuries, especially on the issue of primitivism, reminds us of the different statements made by the Pequod crews looking at the same doubloon. The reading of he book itself is a way of encountering the Marquesan people, and the reviewers and critics have interpreted them in various ways, such as “the inhabitants of he garden of Eden” or “depraved cruel savages” in the 19th century and even the ”uncreate “ in the 20th century. The purpose of this treatise is the discussion of the 19th century interpretations and see their historical and ideological perspectives on the subject. | |||||
