| 内容記述 | In his Sonnets, often uses the word eye in the context of death imagery. I will try to explain why these two images are connected in Shakespeare’s mind. I argue that the rhyme eye-die-lie was one of the causes of this association. Although Spurgeon says that eye and death are semantically related, I think Shakespeare was more concerned with the sounds of words when he was writing verse. I will examine how the rhyme is reflected in the Sonnets. Next, I will analyze other words that indicate death-grave, plague, time. I also show that death images are frequent in a context in which see or look appears. | |||||
