This study develops a ride quality rating system using a driving simulator and physiological information such as heart rate variability (HRV) that contributes to quantitative and high accuracy pavement surface monitoring. As a result, oscillations of HRV indicate a constant tendency toward different roughness conditions in case that experimental participants suffer mental stress caused by the vehicle vibration. On the other hand, some participants adjust to the vehicle vibration according to the increase of the number of trials.
