Detailed field observation was carried out at three sites in Teshio River in Hokkaido, Japan. The techniques for\npresuming energy gradient, open water area, hydraulic radius and flow velocity coefficient were shown in the analysis\nof the observation. Relation between flow velocity coefficient, hydraulic radius and energy gradient was clarified in a\nfrozen river. A formula for estimating flow discharge of a frozen river using the water level and ice covered area was\ndeveloped.
