ダイヤモンド砥粒の三次元切れ刃形状を走査型レーザ顕微鏡（SLM）で測定し、切削方向に対する砥粒切れ刃の姿勢に注目して１面切れ刃と２面切れ刃にモデル化した。１面切れ刃はすくい角と刃先角、２面切れ刃はすくい角とくさび角で形状を特性化した。次に、それぞれの切れ刃モデルについて硼珪酸ガラスの単粒切削実験を行い、切削条痕をSEMとSLMで観察することにより、除去過程が延性領域から延性・脆性境界領域に遷移する点の切込み深さ、すなわち、臨界切込み深さd_cを測定した。その結果、負のすくい角35～90°の範囲でd_c値は60～160
