In the following pages, an attempt wm be made to show that the adoption of Stowell’s (1987) slash-indexing analysis of Weak Crossover and a system of category projection proposed in Fukui (1986 ; 1988 a ; 1988 b), Fukui and Speas (1986), and Speas (1986) would provide a compelling account of that difference in the two languages.
