The purpose of this paper is to confirm the accuracy and reliability of the apparatus by measuring the α values in hydrogen. The reason for using hydrogen is that there is little difference between its α values for each investigator compared with other gases and the gas is frequently employed as a suitable one for testing such an apparatus. The results show that the α values obtained over the E/P_0 range 40<E/ P_0<200 Vcm^<-I> Torr^<-l> are in excellent agreement with earlier ones.
