For this purpose, the EGR system where the induction line was throttled, i.e. intake throttling EGR, can be expected to make smaller by increasing the gas speed in the EGR pipe line. It became possible by means of this improvement to decrease the diameter of the EGR pipe to 1/2?1/3 when compared with the standard EGR system. However, a sound level became higher and the fuel consumption was increased.
