That is to use four (2,2)-port hybrid circuits and connect them so that each input power from four input ports is equally delivered to four output ports. Provided that the hybrid operations of each (2,2)-port hybrid circuit are perfect at the center frequency f_0 of transmission, those of the (4,4)-port circuit are also perfect at f_0 and the same compensations for hybrid characteristics as (2,2)- port hybrid circuits can be used for the (4,4)-port hybrid circuits. Simple loop hybrid rings and coupled transmission-line directional couplers are employed to compose the (4,4)-port hybrid circuits,for they have symmetric transmission and equal operating characteristics at all four ports.
