So,about the short-range schedule of power system operation,advance from the deterministic and economic schedule, we must determine the short-range schedule of power systems operation from the stand point of coordination of economy and reliability considering random elements within power system.  In this paper, we propose a new reliability index for the short-range operation and consider the schedule of operation involving the co-ordination of economy and reliability.  At first,in relation to the well-known long-range Loss of Load Probability(LOLP) and it's set value, we consider the set value of short-range LOLP and it's equivalent Security level.  Then,we introduce a new index Security Margin, which can evaluate how an operating schedule can attain it's reliability goal and refer to the method to determine the co-ordinated operating schedule using this index.
