| 内容記述 | This study explores the role of intellectual property (IP) in education and research at Kitami Institute of Technology. The objective is to clarify the current status and challenges of university IP activities by examining both educational initiatives and research outcomes. On the educational side, the university has implemented IP courses and seminars for students, faculty, and staff, contributing to improved IP literacy and fostering creativity and problem-solving skills. On the research side, an analysis of 171 patent applications filed between 2000 and 2022 revealed that nearly half of university-only applications were withdrawn or rejected, and about 45% of granted patents lapsed after seven years due to unpaid annuities, reflecting financial constraints. In contrast, patents co-filed with industry partners showed higher maintenance rates. The findings highlight the need for strategic IP management and integrated education–research approaches to enhance the long-term value and societal impact of university research | |||||
