To improve the working efficiency\nof agricultural vehicles, fields are expected to be\npre-leveled, because the vehicles work more effectively\non a flat field. Leveling a field requires the current field\nelevation map. Some farmers in Japan have begun\nto use high-precision real-time kinematic Global Positioning\nSystem (RTK-GPS)-based self-steering tractors\nin the fields. This study uses the RTK-GPS information\nfrom a self-steering tractor system to generate\na digital elevation model (DEM) especially in mountain\nregions where the fields are not flat. In addition,\nall of the information is from the self-steering system\nwith the result that farmers can use the method of this\nstudy without additional instruments. However, the\nGPS receiver sometimes cannot obtain high-quality\nsignals from satellites in mountain regions. Therefore,\nthis study focuses on how to create a high-precision\nDEM even when a GPS signal is unavailable. It proposes\na dynamic interpolation method for generating\na DEM. In addition, a test was conducted in a field in\na mountain region.
