          <datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Abstract">The reaction of benzyl chloride with ethylenediamine cobalt(II) complex was studied in the presence of sodium borohydride in alcohol under nitrogen atmosphere. Dibenzyl was produced selectively. Since molar ratio of converted benzyl chloride to the cobalt complex was nearly one, it was considered that the cobalt(I) species generated by the reduction with sodium borohydride react with benzyl chloyide to give benzyl radical which could couple to dibenzyl.</datacite:description>
