          <datacite:description xml:lang="en" descriptionType="Abstract">Thermodynamic properties were　calculated based on the simple　two-state model (ice-like structure and close-packed structure), which was proposed by Hall. The results obtained were fairly good in agreement with the experimental data. The same procedure was applied to liquid deuterium oxide in order to investigate the applicability of the two-state model. From the results obtained, we can conclude that the two-state model gives an adequate representation of the thermodynamic properties of liquid water.　　In the constitution of the two-state theory, we had no regard for the cooperative nature of hydrogen-bond formation and breaking. The　cooperative nature is one　of the most important features of the structure of water. Therefore, the order-disorder theory was applied to the structure theory of water with the intention of considering that nature. We can constitute a statistical thermodynamic theory without any adjustable parameters, using the Bragg-Williams approximation. The agreements between calculated values and observed ones are good.  Hydrogen-bond energy in this theory decreases continuously with increasing temperature.　This aspect is a reflection of the cooperative nature of the structure of water.</datacite:description>
